How We operate

As set out in the Bylaws of the Institute, there are three administrative groups which are responsible for the core functions of the USNGI.

  • Board of Directors.  Composed of a minimum of three individuals, and a maximum of eleven, these individuals chart the general direction of the Institute, and are responsible for its effective and efficient operation.
  • Executive Committee.  The Chair, Secretary, and Treasurer of the Board of Directors serve as the corporate officers of the Institute and direct operations between meetings of the Board.
  • Finance Committee.  Chaired by the Board Treasurer and assisted by two other members of the Board, these individuals are responsible for ensuring the ethical and responsible use of all funds entrusted to the Institute.

In contrast to administrative groups working to support the core functions of Institute, there are ad hoc Project Teams which actively execute the Institute's mission through the completion of projects.  The volunteer members of these various Project Teams are responsible for crafting activities which focus on establishing the U.S. National Grid standard as the nation’s primary geo-location coordinate system and 'language of location' for emergency response, data analysis, asset management and public mapping.  The four major areas of mission delivery for Project Teams can be found below.
